Punanga Nui is an eclectic mix of all things Polynesian. Starts around 7am, finishes approx 12midday. Permanent and temporary stalls come together providing fresh fruits, veges, artisan breads, pesto & preserves, herbs, 'Ei katu and Ei kaki, flowers, pot plants, pearls, weaving, plaiting, clothing, art-works, carvings, music, entertainment, raffles, cooked foods, ice creams, fresh fish, Noni juice, CD's, souvenirs, trinkets, Tivaevae, tatoos, fund raising, cold drinks and coffee, visiting VIPs, you name it - it happens! Well organised and very tasteful.
Ruatonga in between the harbour and Avarua is where the Punanga Nui market is held. Mid-week, there is fresh fruits and vege, plus cooked foods. Several permanent stalls remain open on shopping days.
The Waffle Shack for some of the best coffee on the Island, open Tuesday – Saturday (market day) and Wednesday and Friday’s they should have Reuben Dearlove’s freshly baked almond croissants
